The Monongalia County Republican Executive Committee (MCREC) is celebrating a historic milestone as Republican voter registration has officially surpassed Democrat registration in Monongalia County.
According to the latest voter registration figures presented on election night, Monongalia County now has 22,670 registered Republicans compared to 22,468 registered Democrats, reflecting a dramatic political realignment that has taken shape over recent years across West Virginia and North Central West Virginia.
“This is a historic day for Monongalia County and for every volunteer, voter, candidate, and supporter who helped make this possible,” said Dale Sparks, chairman of MCREC. “This milestone didn’t happen overnight. It is the result of years of grassroots effort, relationship-building, and a commitment to serving our communities and standing for common-sense conservative values.”
MCREC Vice Chair Paula Martinelli said the milestone reflects growing engagement and trust from local voters.
“We’ve worked hard to listen to residents, stay active in the community, and support policies that matter to families,” Martinelli said. “This moment reflects the dedication of countless people who care deeply about the future of Monongalia County.”
Vice Chair Drew Talbott emphasized that the achievement was built through sustained volunteer and organizational effort.
“This belongs to the people who knocked doors, made calls, worked the polls, recruited candidates, and stayed engaged year after year,” Talbott said. “We’re proud of this accomplishment, but we also recognize there is still more work ahead.”
Over the past several election cycles, Republicans have continued to gain ground in Monongalia County through expanded voter outreach, candidate recruitment, community engagement, and election participation efforts.
While celebrating the registration milestone, MCREC leaders emphasized that the organization remains focused on continuing outreach efforts and earning the trust of voters across the county.
“We don’t take anything for granted,” Sparks added. “Our responsibility now is to continue building relationships, serving the community, and delivering results for the people of Monongalia County.”
