Register to Vote in Monongalia County, WV (or Update Your Registration)

Want to vote in the May 12, 2026 Republican Primary?

 

West Virginia’s 2026 Republican primary is closed. That means only registered Republicans can vote in the GOP primary on May 12, 2026.

 

If you are currently registered, No Party / Unaffiliated / Independent and want a say in choosing Republican nominees, you can update your registration to Republican before the deadline.

 

Deadline reminder: West Virginia voter registration changes must be made 21 days before an election.

For the May 12, 2026 primary, the deadline is April 21, 2026. (Always confirm deadlines as well as your current status and polling place through the Secretary of State portal.)

Quick steps (online)

  1. Visit the West Virginia Secretary of State online voter registration portal

  2. Check your current registration (status/party/political districts/polling place)

  3. If you want to vote in the GOP primary, update your party to: Republican

  4. Save/confirm your submission and keep a screenshot or confirmation email for your records

Check your registration status first

Before you make changes, it’s a good idea to confirm:

  • Your current party registration/status

  • Your address

  • Your precinct/polling place

  • Your political districts

Use the WV Secretary of State portal to check and update your information

What you’ll need at the polls (ID requirement)

Voters must show an approved form of identification during early voting or on Election Day. IDs must be valid and not expired. (Different rules may apply for absentee-by-mail and certain exceptions.)

Common non-photo ID examples

  • Voter registration card

  • Social Security or Medicare card

  • Birth certificate

  • Utility bill or bank statement issued within six months of the election

  • Any WV or U.S. government document showing your name

Common photo ID examples

  • Government-issued photo ID (including military ID)

  • Concealed carry permit

  • Driver’s license issued by another state
